Science and Technology Policy Studies

METU-TEKPOL is an interdisciplinary research center conducting research on science and technology policy issues with the aim of addressing societal challenges. Different from other research centers at METU, METU-TEKPOL has close links with two educational programs, namely M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in science technology policy studies at the Graduate School of Social Sciences.

METU–TEKPOL has an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of the economic, social and political factors that drive technological change and innovation. Our research and training programs span an extensive domain in close relation to recent policy questions concerning national and international regulations of science, technology and innovation, with a particular focus on the networks of inter-organizational relations on the side of knowledge management issues.

Established in 1997 METU-TEKPOL is the only research center in Turkey that concurrently involves in research and education activities. As of 2014 more than 200 students have completed M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs on Science and Technology Policy Studies. As of 2009, 7 international and 11 national projects have been successfully completed. Such activities make the center a major hub in the network of science, technology and innovation in Turkey.
