Kurulduğu tarihte ODTÜ’ye tahsis edilen Eymir Gölü ve çevresindeki araziler, hem önemli bilimsel ve eğitsel hem de önemli ağaçlandırma etkinliklerinin yeri olmuştur. Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi kendi tarihi içinde, Ankara’nın korunması gereken doğal peyzajı ve ekolojik denge alanları açısından özel öneme sahip Eymir Gölü ve çevresini, bir Doğa Parkı olarak yeniden üretmiş ve geliştirmiştir.
